5 ways to escape a nagging houseguest February 29, 2008

I agree that no man is an island, but what if you’re staying at a place with the most nagging person? Would you save your money or your sanity?Let’s get things straight by qualifying a nagging houseguest.

One. At the break of dawn, you hear the ear-ringing sound of dishes plus the heavy sighs of your housemate who’s asking the wind of where the sugar is.

Two. Your houseguest goes to the market and comes home criticizing how small the market was, how snubbish the vendors were, how the meat was the poorest quality, how the fish wasn’t the freshest, only to find that the very things he or she complained about were the ones she actually bought.

Three. Your houseguest complains how big your plates are, how cold the water is, and the shows on your cable tv and seeing that they’re only glued to the same channel 12 hours straight.

Four. Your houseguest is constantly on the phone talking to someone at their home about a small party at the day that they will still be at your place and complaining about the costs.

Five. You go out in the rain to bu food for them only to see that they opted for a pizza delivery. Take note, you didn;t cook, you bought food outside.

And the list goes on. Bottom line, this houseguest gets into your nerves and gives you sleepless nights.

As much as possible, we all want to be the most accommodating and warm hosts but if things are really annoying, we can’t help but to wish that the days would go by faster than the jaguar so that we can have the house to ourselves again. But we can’t just kick them out, can we? Especially if their reason for a temporary stay is valid.

Maybe all we can do is to go on quick escape so as to avoid any confrontation and possible rifts. Especially if your houseguest is a family member who has a business in town and needs a temporary, costless shelter. We can’t just send them home packing. We love them to death but sometimes it is best to love them at a distance.

So, have come with steps on how we can make our temporary run away from them.

1. Go overtime at the office. I say, it would be much happier to be stressed at work and get paid for it than sulking at your houseguests endless complains on how dull your house paint is.

2. Go out on a date. Say yes to that person who has been asking you out for a month but don’t let them walk you home.

3. Go on a last minute shopping. Run to the mall after work. Buy the item you have been wanting to buy for months but keep them discreet when you arrive home so as not to attract attention.

4. Go on a trip abroad for the whole week. You may find this a bit too expensive but thanks to Luxurylink’s and Qantas’ 7-nights free stay at Australia contest, you don’t have to spend a dime.

5. Just smile through it all. At the end of the day, they will still be there so just smile through it all. The dark clouds will pass, so to speak. They will be gone, eventually.

You’ve just got to respect their space and maybe a little sweet talk can also do the trick. Just avoid any arguments and welcome them like it’s the first time (and hopefully, last) that they will be there.

Places in Asia to avoid the swarming crowds February 27, 2008

Travelling to Asia more often than not means running into a massive mobs and long queues. And for those who prefer to go on a solitary vacation, this continent may not be the most ideal setting to be into. But if you’re not a wealthy recluse like Marlon Brando who had a private island in Tetiaroa in French Polynesia, then what are you to do?There are actually accommodations in certain countries in Southeast Asia that arrange museum and gallery tours and provide private tasteful and classy performances by musicians and theatre performers. These activities will certainly divert you from the hustle and bustle of the masses and the scorching heat outside.

So, you really don’t have to buy your own island to enjoy the solitude. But, it’s also an option. A two to three-days stay at one of these hotels in Asia can give you the tranquillity you’ve been longing for.

amansara-resort.jpg

Amansara, Siem Reap, Cambodia

With the Angkor Wat as its next-door neighbour, it is the perfect place to stay to appreciate more than 6,000 priceless relics and statues reflecting the rich Cambodian culture. Less than 200 visitors and scholars are allowed to view and you can be one of the chosen few if you are a guest at the Amansara resort. The hotel also organizes private escorts as tour guides into the warehouse for the closest view of the sandstone inscriptions and sculptures from the 12th century ruins.

new-majestic-hotel.jpg

New Majestic Hotel, Singapore

This hotel located at Singapore’s Chinatown can give you access to its first toy museum which cradles approximately 50,000 toys. The New Majestic Hotel recently launched a dining program featuring after-hours access to the five-story building filled with vintage toys. The tots can freely roam around the robots on the fifth floor while the adults can enjoy sumptuous dinner in the midst of action figures on the fourth floor. Toy aficionados can opt for renting a whole floor or the entire museum the whole night.

sofitel-metropole.jpg

Sofitel Metropole, Hanoi, Vietnam

This hotel provides exclusive viewing for it guests at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theater, a popular homegrown amusement. The Sofitel Metropole has activities that will let you learn ancient puppetry secrets. 14 puppeteers will assist you in picking and maneuvering a doll of your choice from the storage room.

st-regis.jpg

St. Regis, Shanghai, China

The butlers at this hotel in Shanghai will serve as your personal tour guide to museums and galleries such as the Shanghart or to Shanghai MOCA, the city’s first contemporary art and design museum. St. Regis guests are the few people who can gain access to Chinese Painting Academy which houses works of acclaimed and budding painters way before their official displays.

Consider these hotels your own little temporary realms away from the mob. If you’re into the arts, which is averagely considered as a solitary interest, then these accommodations in the lone parts of Southeast Asia would be a haven. Travelling has evolved from just having fun to learning something and gather your thoughts and indulging on new things you don’t experience from being buried daily at work.

Sure-fire tricks to liberate your pets from stress February 20, 2008

Pets also have the right to be stressed too.

As most pet lovers know and all people should know, animals do go under stress as well.

westie-362x428.jpg

It is more pitiful to see our beloved pets just slouching in a corner and never able to say a word but we just know inside that they do have something bothering them.  Stress in pets do have a lot of complications which can be fatal if not taken cared of.  And losing a pet is something some people do take years to get over with.

Hundreds and thousands of articles have been written on how pets can reduce a person’s stress but do we think of their feelings as well?  Outward signs include restlessness, ear-banging howling, peeing more than the usual, food-dropping, out-of-the ordinary panting and drooling, coughing, shaking, trembling, dilated pupils and diarrhea.

De-stressing the pets is a way to repay them for all the unexplained joy they have given to our lives.  They have become part of our family and the bond is so strong that some regard them as their own children.  Giving them a break can do a lot of good for them.

1.    Take them to the vet.

First and foremost, a trip to the veterinarian’s office is a must.  The stress may have inflicted health complications so it’s a good move to have the vet check them out first.

2.    Tag them along on a vacation.

Just like humans, your pets need a break from the hustle and bustle.  Relaxing vacation spots contribute to their well-being. A new environment will definitely invigorate their senses.  It will also be the perfect time to bond with your pets too.

3.    Visit your nearest pet spa.

A day at the pet spa will never ever hurt your dog. The nail clipping, ear cleaning, teeth cleaning and bathing do give your pets that refreshing feeling and it will be more alleviating for them if you go hands-on during the grooming session, this will give the feeling that you truly care for them.

4.    Schedule play dates with other pets.

A good company is always a good way to de-stress your pets.  Maybe all they need is a little play time with their kind.  Just like us, no animal is an island all the time.  Socializing should be part of their calendar as well.

5.    Shower them with new pet accessories.

Why not do some retail therapy for your pet?  Maybe they just need something to chew on or cuddle with or lie on. Changing their sheets can definitely do something good.

6.    Make them eat something new.

Maybe their sick and tired of  what’s on the table, so to speak.  Try giving them new brands and see if they’ll like it.  Just don’t forget to consult your vet as well for any allergic reactions.

7.    Spend a day with them alone.

Maybe they just need your warmth and presence.  As they say, the greatest gift you can give is your time.  And this can apply to your pets too.

Just like of all us, our pets do feel stress due to a number of ways which we may never know.  They can’t really tell us what’s wrong and that’s the worst part of it.

5 things to know for non-millionaires before buying an island February 18, 2008

You don’t have to be filthy rich like Richard Branson or Mel Gibson to own your island, or at least to KNOW what to look in an island before buying it.108298-gal-lrg-01.jpg

An island broker from Coldwell Banker Private Islands made a remark that he sold three islands in a country located in Southeast Asia for less than $200,000 to an American restaurant critic. Now, isn’t that a ray of hope?

So, have made a checklist for those who are eyeing islands:

1. Make sure that the island is not too far from the main land or other neighboring populated islands.

Getting an island implies that you love to be in solitary. But then, being too cut off from the signs of civilization can be pretty difficult as to getting assistance during emergency situations.

2. Secure that the property ownership is clearly specified and documented with the country’s land registry office.

Alway check that the island you’re eyeing actually belongs to that country and is available to be owned. Make sure all the legal matters are sealed.

3. Check if there is safe, drinking water available on the island.

Observe if there is a desalination plant or at least water tanks that can store a good amount of water supply. Or if you can afford more, build one.

4. Make a research if the island is open to development.

Island life can be pretty simple, but you need to have the basic necessities such as electricity. So, before buying one, make sure you can install electricity for a reliable supply.

5. Gain knowledge if the host country is politically stable.

If the political state of the country where the island is located is stable, then you will not encounter any problems in living in that island. You’re going to live in that island, or at least stay there once in a while, right? That’s why you want to buy it.

You might say that buying an island is a waste of money for there are more important things in this world to spend on like putting up houses for the homeless. But maybe you can use that island you bought to give shelters to those who have no roofs above their heads as well.

Safety tips for women travelling solo February 14, 2008

Solitary travelling implicates more risks than travelling in groups. More so if a woman goes on her own in a foreign place she has never been before.

But the joy of being in solitude gives one a lot of time to reflect, to know what they truly want and just to chill out with having to think of someone else’s well-being. I know, it sounds selfish but it’s just a way of loving yourself more. It’s like one of those centuries-old love philosophy, you have to love yourself first before other love you.

And a woman travelling solo has all the time to pamper herself. But face it, the world isn’t as safe as it was compared to a decade ago. Though women are more empowered now, there are still people who look at women as dependent and fragile being who’ll cry on a broken nail. Here are some ways to be safe for women travelling solo.

1. Travel when the sun’s up – it is safer to travel when the sun is up and more people are on the streets. there are more places that are best to see during the day.

2. Dress appropriately and properly – this hold true when you’re going to a conservative place and people practice a conservative lifestyle. When in Rome, do what the Romans do, right? Besides, you don’t want to draw negative attention because of what you wear.

3. Always stuff a flashlight in your backpack – this is in case you have night adventures. Also, never forget to bring extra batteries.

4. Let someone close to you know your itinerary – your family and friends are the most convenient people to leave your whereabouts in case something comes up.

5. Do research of the place and avoid promiscuous places – don’t need to stress this one.

6. Know when to tag along other women travellers – there’s safety in groups.

7. Appear and feel confident – this is your best offense and defense. If you feel that you’re somewhat lost, then don’t appear too helpless but be brave enough to ask for directions.

The most important thing is to be prepared on the road. Empower yourself with the tools to protect yourself and the knowledge of the places you’ll be going to by yourself.

Ways on how to land your dream beach vacation without spending a cent February 12, 2008

Summer’s coming and it’s time to hit the beach.

But going to the white sand beaches isn’t like just going home for the holidays. For one, going on a beach vacation costs money, a lot. This holds true when you’re eyeing out-of-the-country beach resorts which can be pretty pricey. As they say, sometimes, the ultimate comfortability comes with a high price. But the price shouldn’t hinder us from getting into the spirit of spending a vacation along the beach.

What would make our beach vacation the most memorable is if we don’t have to dig deep into our pockets. But is this possible or just too good to happen in this lifetime? Actually, this possibility can be turned into reality through these ways.

1. Join online contests. But make sure to review the terms very carefully. These contests are usually run by travel destination sites and require you to enter some basic information such as your name and email address. And if you win, that’s the time when you’ll be giving more personally identifiable information. Luxurylink.com currently has a win-a-trip contest which features a 5-night stay for two at the beach vacation of your choice. The good thing about this contest is you can submit multiple entries after every 24 hours until March 31. To add, you won’t receive the same set of newsletters over your email after your second entry as long as you enter the same email address.

online-contest.jpg

2. Participate on offline travel contests. The internet isn’t the only channel where travel contests can be found. Travel magazines do quarterly or bi-monthly contests for their readers. And the catch, also a subscription to the magazine.

travel_magazines_fan1.jpg

3. Collect and take advantage of online travel coupons. Travel coupons function more like your regular retail coupon which you can use to get discounts online. But just make sure to also review the terms, especially on the date that the coupons can be used. Beach resort coupons already include discounts on accommodations, restaurants and other activities that are sponsored by the beach resort. Normally, the beach resorts themselves are the ones who give out their own coupons.

referralcodemothers.png

4. Consider Timeshare – vacation initial offerings. This is a bit tricky yet it exists. What happens is that a beach resort may call you over the phone or send a snail mail offering free accommodation in exchange that you attend their sales presentation that features their existing and up and coming properties. Main point here is they will give a free initial taste of what they have to offer which will then lure you into buying an actual time share. What you need to remember is to review the terms and conditions again and check with the Better Business Bureau and see if the transportation to the beach resort is free as well.

timesharechart.jpg

Some may say that we can’t have a completely-free beach vacation. I say that is true. The ways presented have conditions along the road but it all comes down that the cost will be reduced to a large sum. A free beach vacation entails clean and legally-bounded terms. And in this time of economic turmoil, a big discount is almost good as a free purchase.

Big, big bang February 7, 2008

*Start Copy Here*

You do not have to be tagged to play along. This game is simple and so are the rules.

1. Copy from *Start Copy Here* through *End Copy Here*

2. Add your site(s) to the list. Just be sure to post at each site you add.

3. Tag or don’t tag, your choice, however, the more tags you create the bigger the list will grow.

4. Let me know your blog’s name and url by leaving me a comment HERE. I will add you to the master list. (If you would like a scroll box code, leave me your email address and I will email it to you.) Scroll Box Example. (I decided not to use the box for the Big Bang for ease of copying.)

5. Come back and copy the master list back to your site, often. This process will allow late-comers to get as much link benefit as the first ones in. Once you are on the master list people who have participated earlier will update their bookmarks and help everyone lower than them out on the list.1-Attitude, the Ultimate Power 2-Juliana’s Site 3-Rusin Roundup 4-Grow Rich Along With Me 5-Comedy Plus 6-lynda’s loft 7-Amel’s Realm 8-MAX 9-Speedcat Hollydale 10-Mariuca 11-Complain Complain Complain 12-Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery 13-Life Is A Roller Coaster 14-Sugar Queen’s Dream 15-First Time Dad 16-Life 17-My Life 18-The Painted Veil 19-My Thoughts 20-DatCurious.com 21-Little Aussie Cynic 22-A Nice Place in the Sun 23-DatMoney.com 24-The Down Side OF Up 25-Ladyjava’s Lounge 26-Cat Tales 27-moms…..check nyo 28-Colorado Baby 29-It’s a Woman’s World 30-ENLIGHTENED BITS 31-My View of “It” 32-My Reviews and Finds Along the Way 33-Our Hep Chat 34-Rantings of a Woman 35-The Callalily Space 36-Mom Knows Everything 37-Hazel 38-Chronicles and Tales Unlimited (RED) 39-From the Mouth of Jabber Jaws 40-Sunny Side Up Foodie & Lifestyle 41-Carmel Corn 42-Daily Stock Picks 43-The Whole New World 44-Wifespeak 45-Slavery Bliss 46-Rooms of My Heart 47-Unpredictable Life 48-My Life, My World 49-At Your Service 50-All About Ebay 51-Everything Amazon 52-Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out 53-My So-Called Site 54-New Wife Blog 55-Tendre Poison 323 56-Nick’s Bytes 57-My Scratch Pad 58-Choc Mint Girl 59-Life Is Just Around the Corner… 60-Amori, poseia, art… virtuali by Hanna 61-Maryannaville 62-monaco – monaco’s 63-Nyumix’s Blog 64-read my mind – my keyboard monologues 65-Shower You Children With Love – The Right Way 66-Secret Agent Mama 67-Pinaymama’s Diary 68-Answers to the Questions 69-Work of the Poet 70-A Total Blog 71-My life, my hope, my future 72-NORTE 73-A Window to Our World 74-Life as a Mom 75-FIELD OF DREAMS 76-lisgold 77-See Me for What You 78-Caught in The Stream 79-Pinay Mommy Online – My Home 80-foster me up 81-CRUEL VIRGIN 82-Garden of Moments in Blog 83-So Cute 84-Love Everlasting 85-WeLcOmE To My CriB 86-WELCOM TO PINAYSMILE’S JOURNEY 87-Ice’s Icelog 88-Jenny’s Wandering Thoughts 89-Hobbies and Such 90-Sweet Paradise 91-Mommy’s Gibble Gabbles 92-Rusin Review’s 93-My Small World 94-Little Peanut 95-Online Ramblings 96-My Mood My Feeling 97-BLOG it with ALLEN 98-Entertainment World 99-Let’s Go Singapore 100-Firelynx 101-Catsy Carpe Diem 102-Every Beat Of My Heart 103-Always Da Fresh Princess 104-Listening..
